Hello i bought a used and abused 1996 1200 sporster bored cams shaved heads the whole nine yards rebuilt the motor and still leaks oil from everywhwere has to be crankcase pressure but cant seem to level it out any ideas would be greatly appreciated \\; very frustrated here.
heads mostly lil bit from the base gaskets and from the push rod covers i though at first to re torque so i did then it started leaking in new places it is pushin oil out where it can \\; not like quarts but enough to cover the motor in about 20 min ride
Yeah, mine started doin the same thing a few months ago, I've got the same mods you do minus the shaved heads but it's been stroked. What kind of gaskets did you put in, I was talkin to a friend of mine and he suggest that I look into some high performance gaskets. Mine is a '92, so all the oil lines are startin to rot as well, guess I'll be pullin the motor to get'er powdercoated while I'm playin with it. F*ck it[8D]
Just a thought....have you looked Into breathers and the oil pump?....on a different bike I had an oil pump failure,to much oil In the crankcase...when the pistons are going down they compress the extra oil out of any weakness In seals and gaskets.
 \\;It partially depends on what you call a rebuild and the leaking can be cause by improper engine cleaning and prep work.
 \\;I have seen all kinds of leaking problems related to not cleaning things properly and if you have excess crankcase pressure that can be related to rings not being installed properly or piston to wall clearance being to large. \\; \\;All I can say is tear it back down and figure out what you did wrong.
 \\; \\; \\; \\; \\; \\;&n bsp\\; \\; \\; \\; \\; \\;&nbs p\\; \\; \\; Been there done that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \\; \\; \\; \\;
i have checked the breather seems to be working correctly oil pump is running at about 30 PSI normal operation might pull and replace just to know for sure though \\; thanks for the tip
I've got an 01 sporty 883. Complete top end rebuild, big bore (hammer performance), and 1 over cams with adjustable push rods. I'm having this same issue. When the engine get to about operating temp, it leaks oil from multiple places. Namely various crank case bolts and rocker Allen bolts (very top 8). I have a breather kit. Oil will seep (drip) from the vent tube that goes to the ground. I have tried a few types of oil, they all do the same thing. I am currently running drag 20/50 oil in it.
Anyone come up with a solution why the case pressure is building so bad?

I had on old school Harley mechanic take a look at her. I should have mentioned earlier that the larger cams are causing a loud noise. (Sounds like the engine is coming apart) He mentioned that the engine looks like it's been worked on by a racing engine builder (which it has) and there could be some odd parts in place (that racers do). Such as oil restriction and breather gear shims (to get different temps and pressures).
The top end is breathing correctly, but there could be a clog in the lower end causing improper oiling and pressure.
Lastly that there a a few different sizes of cams available for Sportsters. We are going to measure the ones I have and see if they are "meshing" together correctly. This could be where the noise is coming from. I'll keep my post updated as progression continues.
