I get at least 50 MPG on my 2016 Iron 883... the fuel light always comes on around 105-110 miles then when i always stop and put gas but I can only get 2.1-2.3 gallons fueling to the top.
Bringing this old thread to life to see how many miles others are getting and how far others ride with the low fuel light on the 883?
I tried riding passed and 110 miles but started to feel a little sputter so just stopped and got gas, but then still only pumped 2.5 gallons....
I usually average around 40-45 mpg with all in town riding, and around 50-55 on the highway depending on cruising speed. As far as low fuel light and fill ups go I have gone 40 miles once after it came on due to lack of fuel stations and ended up putting 2.8 gallons in it.
My 2015 gets anywhere from low 40's to almost 60 mpg. I'd say I get the best gas mileage if I ride around 50-60mph. The highway usually kills my gas mileage because I speed a little much. Just know that 85-100mph will get you low 40's. I get better gas mileage in town than those highways where I'm speeding. If I'm in the mountains and staying a gear low while riding aggressive I still get almost 50mpg. My bike has a K&N air filter and cycleshack slip-ons with a piggyback tuning device.
I'm getting mid to high 40s (sometimes in the low 50s). I did a test last week. I have a 2011 Iron with a 1.5 tank lift, Samson Hell Raisers exhaust and stock air cleaner- no other performance upgrades. I decided to carry a one litre fuel bottle and ride until I went dry. I got to 220 kms (It's about 136.7 miles) and it started to sputter on quick acceleration and I was close to a gas station so I filled up instead of pushing it any further. I got exactly 10.3 litres into the tank at fill up. Not gonna convert that but a 3.3 gallon tank is a 12.5 litre tank. So I think if I nursed it I could have got a bit further. Pre-tank lift my fuel light would come on at around 155+ kms after the the tank lift it comes on around 145+ kms so that's when I used to fill up (or less). I was so worried about running out of gas I would often pull fill up at 90 or so kms to avoid the worry but will be going for 170 kms from now on (105 miles). Bugs me I hadn't tried this test earlier.
