I like the way my 06 Sportster 1200 sounds and do not want to disturb the neighbors.I would like to get a little more power. If I do the Stage 1 upgrade without the pipes am I wasting my money? Thanks.
If sound is a concern you can put SE Street Performance pipes with air and get a good boost. They sound deeper and louder by not as loud as a lot of pipes - about 80bd or so. I just put a video up on here that wll give you an idea of how they sound. You will get improved torque and overall HP improvements with air and pipes since HD sets their bikes way too lean at stock.
I don't know what you will accomplish if you just do air and only intake more without letting it breathe. If you do both you will need either an HD download or a tuner. I would do pipes and air BOTH or just wait..IMHO - hope that helps.
You aren't wasting your money doing intake and rejet without exhaust. What you are doing is more along the lines of a Stage .5. You are just going half-way.
To get the power you want you will need to do something with the exhaust. The intake and carb jets will allow more air and fuel into the motor. You will notice small gains with that alone. But in order to get the full effect you must balance the "more in" with "more out". Freer flowing intake needs freer flowing exhaust to make the most power.
The SE mufflers are your best no brainer solution. They aren't the cheapest but they will give you what you want - more power without changing the sound too much.
While I agree about not worrying about what other's think - Booey may not be as good friends with his neighbors as I am.
Both my neighbors are older and have had some health problems. These are the same neighbors that helped me out with my yard and many other things in the past - including inviting me to many cookouts and sending good food over from time to time. One of my neighbor's wife also has cancer.
So since I sometimes take my bike out early in the am and occasionally come home late at night - I put the street performance pipes that sound better but are not as loud.
Sometimes we do tradeoffs out of respect for others...
I can respect doing tradeoffs for others.I do like my neighbors.Bt they have never said anyhting to me about the sound of my ride so I dont worry about it
Save up and get a 2 into 1 exhaust which will give you the performance without all the noise as they're pretty quiet.
Honestly, I have SEII slipons and they pretty nice and actually are not that loud.
Just don't sit around idling in you driveway, problem solved!!! My bike is fairly loud with cycleshack slip-ons. All I do is avoid sitting around in my driveway if I need to go out late at night, or even when I come home, I'll just cruise up the street at a low rpm, and cut the engine as soon as I get in the driveway. Plus you may be worrying to much about noise, Idle you bike at the end of your driveway, and go in your house and see how it sounds, you'll most likely find that it's really not as loud and anoying as you think it is.
