Hey guys - this seems like a great forum with lots of info. Been lurking a while. I have searched quite a few posts, and came up with fragments of answers to the question I have, but nothing complete.
Ok, here's my question: I have a 2007 883C. It runs great and looks great, but the sound is not so great. I am financing the bike through the dealer. I am looking for some pipes or mufflers that sound better (lower/louder) that will not void my warranty and not cause me to have to buy a sh!tload of other parts to make them work right.
I was told by a friend that on the EFI models that you can get louder pipes, take it to the dealer and they "download" something to your bike and charge you about $100. That's fine - I just don't want to void the warranty. I also don't want tobuy something from the dealer they say is loud and then be unimpressed with my $400 (or so) purchase.
Anybody out there got this accomplished already? If so, what parts did you go with?
I feel your pain, I too have been thinking about slightly louder pipes and have found that most people are doing the air cleaner at the same time and then require the dreaded download. I'm still not sure if I can put the Screamin Eagle slip ons on it without having to do anything else. For what it's worth, on the Harley website it shows only new muffler clamps in the "other required parts" section with the SE slip ons, I am assuming that they would mention the download if it was required but who knows for sure?
You need the download if you do the intake and the pipes. If you just do the slip-ons you do not need the download. I'm not sure about a full set of pipes.
I just put v&h slip-ons on my 07 883. Just the slip-ons and nothing else. It sounds and runs great with no download or intake. That will get done later, but wasn't ready for it at that point just like you. You'll be fine if you just put some mufflers on it and nothing else just like said above.
I have an 07 1200c and added Rush slip-ons with no download or anything else . It runs and sounds great. It can adjust for only a set of slip-ons and run just fine.
