This is a 2 part question. First, I bought a 1998 1200 custom and, love the bike, but when I bought it, it already had the red back turn signal conversion or so I thought. The only thing that works are the turn signals. I would like to know how to hook them up so they are break lights also. I pretty sure I have to buy a kit to do, but can't find on anywhere. Can someone please direct me in the way of a website or someone I can find one of these kits.
Ok, part 2! Yesterday I went to autozone and bought some replacement LED lights for the brake lights, and rear turn signals. I bought the dual contact 1157 replacement lights. When I installed them, they wouldn't work correctly. When I hit the signal button they came on and stayed on constantly, they wouldnt blink. Also I pretty sure this is a quality issue, but they one I installed in the brake light wasn;t that bright. So I put all the old one's back in and took the LED lights back to the store.
Now, why did the LED's not blink, also I thought they were suppose to be brighter than incadesent bulbs? Where could I go to find some bright plug and playLEDlights? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Ok, for part 1, look into the tail/brake/turn signal kit from Kurayakn. I put it on mine & it works great. It's about $60 for your bike, 04 & up require an additional adapter cable for about $15.
Part2, if you are going to use LED lamps the Kurayakn kit requires a current compensator (comes with kit) to be installed. If your bike has a module already installed you might not have the compensator which would keep the lights from functioning properly.
Those of us who have already tried LEDs for brake lights have been disappointed. I even had a cop pull me over one night, and told me to GET RID OF THOSE LEDS or GET A TICKET.
I went right home and did that, as I had thought they were limp-d**k anyway. I have yet to find anything that I'm willing to risk my hard-earned cash for unless I can see someone else's REAL BIKE in a REAL APPLICATION that looks brighter than original incandescent bulbs.
Anyway, good luck if you find a success story; just don't be optimistic.

05 does not require anything other than the Module if ya buy the HD item and it was 54 bucks for my 05, plug and play, run/turn/brake, and you are right on about the compensator for the LED's.

The difference between the HD & Kurayakn units is that the Kurayakn has a jumper option that causes the tail lights to quickly flash 3 times and then go solid on when the brake is applied. It does seem to get the cagers attention.
