Default Issue with neutral indicator/switch?

Hope this isn't to long, but wanted to be complete rather than having a bunch of questions going back and forth. Thanks.

The other night, I noticed that I wasn't seeing the neutral light coming on when going from 1st to 2nd, and then placed the bike in neutral at next stop light, and it still wasn't on after making sure it was really in neutral.

Looked for info on where exactly the switch was, and looked at my Clymer manual, and didn't seem to be in same place as the model that was shown in manual (2004-2013 manual). 2013 Harley Davidson Forty-Eight is mine, but have already found differences between years. Found some videos online with other bikes, and was a simple unscrew and replace. When to the dealer, and was informed that it is located behind the front sprocket, and is a 1 1/2 hour job at $85/hr. The exhaust has to be removed, belt has to be loosened to get access? Think the switch is only about $15? Not sure why Harley has it in this location, rather than in a location that one could get to like the other brand I saw in video, and dealer mentioned other harleys also have it in a better location. Dyna change is list as .3 hours rather than the 1.3 hours for the 2013.

Was doing some more searching the hdforums, and had found a mention of a person with a problem with the neutral light, and he could only start the bike with the clutch in. Even if it was in neutral. I just did a test on my bike, and it will start with the clutch out in neutral, but does nothing if the bike is in gear. So, somehow the bike is telling if it is in neutral or not, but it might be using another method?? The other possibility is that the switch is working, and it is sending a single to the computer that the bike is in neutral, but the connection to turn the N light on isn't complete. All the other lights work fine, Oil Light comes on and then off after starting, both turn signals, and high beams work.Just no green N.

Have ordered the Harley Service Manual for my bike from dealer for $72, but they say it usually takes about 3 weeks to come in. So, not clear exactly which wire of connector it would be between the switch and light, or if it is the LED that has gone bad how to change it?

Had recently put some VHT clear coat on new V&H blackout exhaust, and the curing process required running it at idle for 10 minutes on/off, then 20 minutes on/off, and then 30 minutes on/off. So, that had the N light on for 60 over about 1 1/2 hours.

Just got bike on 12/27/2014, so new to Harley's. Not a big issue, but would prefer to have the like working correctly.

Hopefully, someone else has already solved this, or has a simple way to figure out exactly where the problem is and fix it.

Thanks.

Default Issue with neutral indicator/switch?

I've had issues with mine after changing over to taller risers. The connection that goes into the "dash" or indicator bar is loose and all I have to do is wiggle it and it will work for awhile. Same thing happens with my oil light. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks. Had looked at the connectors at bottom of the frame and engine and wiggled those, but didn't see any connector under the bar, but just now went out an wiggled that just a couple of times, and now the light came on. Will have to see how long it works. Not sure if the bar is one unit, or if it can be taken apart. Did put a 2" riser on bike, but that was months ago. Thanks.

The actual neutral switch is located underneath the front gear drive sprocket on the right hand side of the bike. To change it will require you to remove the sprocket, which is a pain believe you me.
