Neutral Light Problems...
Anyone had this problem before...
Usaually after riding awhile my neutral light comes on and stays on in all gears except first. After it sets awhile and I start riding again at some point it comes back on.
I know it's more a neusanse than anything else, but just wondered if anyone else has run into this problem...
I hate to take my bike in just for that... an easy fix?

Hi Charlie,
The neutral switch provides a ground for the indicator lamp when your the transmission is in neutral. There is a single wire connector (tan) under the bike about even with the jiffy...pull them apartand see if the problem persists...yes... you have an intermittent ground in the wiring going to the indicator. No.....bad switch ( no adjust ). I can email you a schematic out of an '04 Sportster Service Manual and a pic where the switch is. A pin on the shifter drum moves a plunger which makes the switch in neutral.
The switch is screwed into the transmission portion of the right crankcase half just forward of the main drive gear on an '04 and it's a pain to change out...remove rear muffler, sproket cover and drive belt...switch is accessable then. Email me olesalt43@***.net if you need furthur info or schematics/procedures.

Don't know what the fix is for this but you might want to search the boards. I know I've read about this same problem on here in the past. Seems like it might happen to others every so often. Good luck....
olesalt...
Thanks for the info... let me try the connection first and see what that does... if I need the other stuff I'll get back with you.
Appreciate your time on this...
