Neutral light / switch help
I'd like a little help with my small issue which I think I know the fix for but don't completely understand, and I always like to fully understand my problem rarther than just replace things.
So my neutral light on the console stopped working.
All other console lights were fine, left turn, right turn, high beam and oil light.
I checked voltage on the neutral light bulb contacts and had 11.6v more than enough to power the bulb.
I then pulled off the wire which pushes onto the neutral transmission switch and touched it against the chrome casing. Well this obviously created a ground and a full circuit and my neutral light was shining again.
So I thougt ok well it must be the neutral switch because if I can get the light to shine then the wiring must be fine.
So I pulled out the neutral switch and cleaned it up. I pushed the switch wire back on and then pushed the plunger of the neutral switch onto a chrome casing which again created a ground and a circuit and my light was shining.
However when I re installed the switch into the trans the light won't come on. And the bike is in neutral for sure.
So whilst I'm hoping a new switch will cure the problem id like some input.
Am I right or wrong?
Also if I'm right why does the light shine when the neutral switch is out of the trans and held against a ground, but won't shine when re-installed.
Many thanks
Darren

The transmission may not be pushing the plunger as far as you are with your finger...if a new switch doesn't fix it, you may have to go inside the trans.
