Hi yall, I'm chris, new here to the forum and to riding. I recently got my license and a 1999 sportster 1200c. I have had it for about 2 months now and I'm starting to think I want a tachometer. I don't think I have redlined it yet but I don't want to and blow it up either... any insight would be appreciated.
My wife has a tach on her 2000 Sportster 1200C. I'm not a fan of them but she is also a new rider and uses it so she can determine a good gear to ride with on city streets.
I won't worry about it then. My uncle has a vrod and he took off and left me. I couldn't be left behind so I pushed the sporty pretty hard and I dmight have hit 6000rpm. I can feel where to shift but I was a little late and didn't want it to happen again.

Ride at your own pace and what you feel safe doing. Don't try to keep up if you feel it's unsafe. If the person your riding with just takes off and leaves you talk to them about it or find someone else to ride with.
It was not a safety issue. The three of us were on a back road with nobody else and he used the power that his bike was created with. I tried to keep up and pushed a lil hard I think
