Default carb issue

i was wondering if anyone knew the right way to adjust an S&S carb on a 1980 1000cc bike. i tryed messing with it and it idles a little lower now but in first and second i have to play with the throttle because the bike starts bogging down. wide open the bikeis fine but once i back off the throttle it bogs down. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Default RE: carb issue

Is the bogging down something that just started, or has it always ran that way? If it just started happening, I'd start off with a good carb cleaning to insure all jet passages are clean and flowing properly. Also check the float level, a low float level can cause unstable flow between idle and 1/2 throttle when the main jet starts to kick in. I don't have s&s, so I don't know any specifics for adjustments, but in general most carbs use a fairly simular tuning procedure, wether it's mikuni, keihin, bendix, s&s. the mikuni carbs have a pretty decent tuning guide on their website, not sure if s&s offers anything, but you could try e-mailing them, i've heard their costumer support is pretty decent.
