Hey everyone, figured it was time for me to get off my butt and engage the Sporty world! A little background.....picked up my 06 883R last Aug. Originally wanted the 50th anniversary model, but the salesman flat out told me I couldnt have one! After fuming for a couple of weeks I went back to browse again and took a liking to the last 06 883R they had. Would have preferred the 1200C but I really have a thing for that peanut tank and the 1200R tank graphics just didnt do it for me, plus, sincethey were eager to get rid of the 06's they supposedly gave me a "deal" on the bike.I have since added the V&H straightshots, S/E high flow air cleaner and upsized my pilot jet. Gotta say it runs SO much better! No carb farts, hesitation and very little warm up time. I might add I live in Phoenix so warm up time is not much of an issue anyway. This bike is the fourth one I've owned and my first Harley, and I do not hesitate to say it is the BEST bike I've ever had! I had originally only planned to keep it for a year or more and then get a B/T but now that desire has left me! I'm 6', 195 lbs. and it fits me like a glove! Sorry if this was a little longwinded and I hope to chat with you all fairly frequently! Ride safe and be well!!!
In my opinion, you got the better bike, a more 'raw' ***** to the road Sportster; although the rubber engine mounts and fuel injection tend to take away a lot of its former personality.
There is so much you can do with an 883, and although I'm not wild about the R model as much as the plain old XL model, at least you got a true American icon.
I would love to ride an FI version someday, just to see how fast they are these days. Sporties have increased in weight so much the past few years that they are just barely under the weight of a number 90's Dynas. I know they keep improving the horse power of the Sportster Evos. My buddy's is a '01, mines a '98, and his has 3 stock horses more than mine and his owners manual says to use at least 91 octane, mine says a minimum of 87 octane.
'Course I have custom pipes and intake and some other HP increasers, but it seems Harley keeps squeezing out more and more horses from their Sporties, and an 883 is nothing to snicker at. You will definitely blow away the BT's in the mountains and twisties, and evenbetter - at the gas pumps.
Dallas, when are you going to post some better pics of your bike. The one you show is so dark and everything, I have a feeling that some clearer ones in better lighting would really allow us to see the sparkle a whole lot better, and I'm itchin to see that wild color of yours a little better against all that chrome.
