Howdy fellas! Been a while since I posted anything. Finally dropped some cash on a 1250 kit for the ole choppa '96. Nothing too crazy. Just the basics for now. Mainly I want a bit more power, and a bit more noise. Noise is where it gets funny. Got new jets. Think my airflow will be ok with the Hammer backing plate and my 2" V&H filter. Funny enough though, I am old, and old school... I actually love my old H crossover pipes. I don't want to be more def than I am at this point, but I need it to be a bit louder than she is now. Just running what appears to be some cycle shack 2.5" slip-ons. Pretty sure I don't want to just yank the baffles. But not sure how loud the TT's are in this configuration. But any advice is always great. I'll be posting up my build soon!
Those H pipes make good power, I think the 883 heads limit flow anyway. Can't help with the loud, I have SE mufflers, I got them in 1990 so I guess SE version 1? I'm sure others have more current input.

Pull the baffles and put some Thunder Torque Inserts in there. It will be a bit louder, a bit deeper tone, and will have more power.
Check out the vid below, there are a couple of sportsters in there-
I don't think crossover pipes came on a Sportster until 1983. Some may call that old school. If you take out the baffels and install the TTIs you will love the sound and performance. Here is some old school from 1957
The H pipes may well make more power, but they also improve mid-range torque, so are well worth keeping. We have another 1250 thread going at present, in which someone comments that the 883 heads are almost as good as 1200 heads, when used on a 1250 kit. If performance proves short of expectations, I'm sure that Hammer can help sort that out, with porting the heads, cams, etc!
