Default 883R ?

As you can see from my previous post, I bought the 883R and have been riding it for 3 days now. I enjoy every minute of it, but would like to hear a louder rumble on the bike. I am very very new to Motorcycles in general, and am wondering what my options may be. Is it just a matter of replacing the exhaust, or slip ons? Any information would be greatly appreciated. And I hate to say this already, but, I think I need more power on the bike. Im thinking about keeping this one to tool around town with and next year upgrade to a Dyna. Im just dreaming right now..
Thanks again, for any info on making it louder.

Jessica,

Search the forum for the "Stage 1 Upgrade". The Stage 1 Upgrade constitutes a free flow air filter, a carb re-jet, and less restrictive slip-on mufflers (like the Screaming Eagle II's) for the more "genuine" Harley sound. You will also unleash more power from your 883 with the Stage 1 Upgrade as it will breathe much better with this upgrade. It's also known as "The Harley Tax" - LOL!!

Thumper, I don't even know where to start. That was definitely good reading, but some of it was like reading latin all over again..lol
The stage 1 appears to be what I need to start with but Im clueless as to where to start. What should be done first?
I am putting the bike away in November, so I might wait till Spring time to pay the "Harley Tax", but what can I do in the meantime to get the louder sound. I read the part of the Slip Ons, that seems like the way to go. I live in Massachusetts, I mean Taxachusetts, so I will wait to pay my dues in April 2006. Also, what are my options for Slip Ons - Any to stay away from, any to definitely consider?
Any store locations, on line, or around Mass..
Thanks for all the info...
You guys and gals have been great

REMOVE THE BAFFLES FROM YOUR CURRENT PIPES!!!!!!!! Until you purchase the Screaming Eagle 2's. That should give you more of what you are looking for, for now. Just keep the baffles or find someone who will inspect the bike "overlooking" the missing baffles, because removing them is "BAD" for emmissions? John

Jessica,

Stage 1 should all be done at the same time. Some say you can add the less restrictive mufflers to get the Harley sound without re-jetting the carb, but I'm not sure I'd add them without the free flow air cleaner and re-jet.

Options on the slip-on mufflers are many. Personally I like the sound of the SE II's from Harley but since I still need to do my own Stage 1 Upgrade, I'm looking hard at Cycle Shacks slip-ons. They have a nice sound, are considerably cheaper than Harley's SE II's, and come in a tapered style that look just like the stock mufflers which I like (kind of "stealthy").

I am waiting for Spring myself to do the upgrade because I also need to do some more searching for the best combo. I particularly like the S&S air cleaner as opposed to Harley's SE Air Cleaner, so right now I'm leaning towards the Cycle Shack tappered slip-ons, the S&S Air Cleaner, and probably a Dynajet carb kit.

There are lots of mail order options. Here are a few you can order free catalogs from, or just peruse their websites:

http://www.jpcycles.com

http://www.denniskirk.com

http://www.jirehcycles.com (best price for the Cycle Shack slip-ons I've found)

http://www.directparts.com

http://www.nrhsperformance.com/partshurricaneflow.shtml (a kind of pricey but very good air cleaner)

You should also get, if you don't already have one, a Harley-Davidson 2006 catalog (free at any dealer). When you pick one up also ask for the 2006 Screaming Eagle Catalog - also free.

I'm sure there are many others, but these should get you started. Take your time, study what's available, keep asking questions on the forums, do searches for "Stage 1", and read through the catalogs - then say goodbye to your hard earned money - LOL!!

By the way, here is another good forum to join - strictly about Sportsters:

Good luck!
