Default looking into stage 1

Should I replace the whole exhaust or just add slip ons? what is the benefir of replacing the whole system over just adding slip ons? Also, was thinking of 4" reinharts. I want to add a grumble to the sound, but don't want to wake the neighbors in the morning. Also, I dont want to be that guy that has the bike no one wants to ride near cause it is to loud. A bit more noise, but a lot more grumble. You know what I'm saying. Are the 4" reinharts what I am looking for?

Don't do it, you won't like the extra power. Loud exhaust bothers your neighbors.

Is your stage 1 question about just putting slipons on? You dont mention what year bike you ahve or if you have a cat in the headpipe. If you have a cat in the headpipe that would change everything. A stage 1 upgrade is slipons/exhaust, and ac upgrade. Are you just wanting an exhaust.

Put your neighbors and your buddies first...don't make any improvements to your bike. You know what I mean.

Seriously -- If you have the cat, kill the cat. You can still add the air, you can probably even use the stock mufflers (the flow is going to improve quite a bit just from the cat).

If you still want a little more rumble, you can go with a quasi-tunable set like American Customs... Heck, you can get a cat-less head pipe from them too from what I understand.

Do your research first and do it well. It gets very expensive and frustrating to do it piecemeal. I did Rush full exhaust (no cat in those), Fuelmoto SE intake, and Xieds. Worked very well and dropped temp. It was a bit loud for my taste but I could have fixed that with new baffles. Sold bike, but would do same on new bike. No expense for dealer download or dyno-ing at all. Good luck.

Don't you think that a properly broken in engine runs as well as the average Stage1 upgrade? I replaced the stock air filter cartridge by a washable K&N element and often ride beyond 4,000 rpm on mountain roads: the engine breathes very well and responds quickly considering the mass of bike. More torque around 2,000 rpm would make it tricky in hairpin curves.

Your right, I didn't tell all. I have 12 sg, engine fully stock, and the cats are still in. I want to change the pipes to make it a bit louder, not I can hear you accross town loud, but I want people to know it is a harley befor they look. I think the answer from full system to just slip ons may have been answered. loose the cats. Either have them cut out and just get slipons or buy the whole system.
My main question is what exhaust is best for the sound that I am looking for. I don't want to play the "I'll try these next" game. To expensive.
I plan on getting a management system and ac. I have to try and save some money to do all this. Am going through a divorce and might get a bit expensive. Plus, I don't want her to see what I am doing to the bike so will have to wait till all is said and done. So in the meen time, I will do my research, find the pipes, management, and ac that will work best for me and hopefully by the beginning of next season I can git er done.

you can go with the screaming eagle pipes they are not to loud and have a nice rumble. i have them and im very happy with them really no need to get a intake i dont think. if you have a brand new bike your dealer should have given you a discount for 3 months or something to that effect. but if your going through a divorce srew it go big or go home just go right to the stage 3 upgrade get some bad dads strecht bags some hill country apes a full j&m rokker system because if you dont spend it she will get the money

Hey, I have a 2012 FLHR, just put the 4" rinehart slip-ons on and left left the air stock, Crap it runs great. Low end is better than stock, and I can walk it up to 110 mph fairly quick.
