I have a sporsters 1200 low, here is my answer To me, the only justification to buy the Low and loose suspension travel is because a person is short and has difficulty flat footing the ground on other models. I certainly don't see the advantage of someone 6'1" buying a Sportster Low. I think the sporsters low is for a short person like me 5'2, now if your are 5'5 or more you should get the sporsters custom.
Now the sporsters low and the custom to me are the same, as the power and the look ,
Before two years ago I was going to buy a custom but at that time I would have to change a lot parts to fit me.
1200 C comes with the larger gas tank as well. That was a big selling point for me as I like the looks of the bigger tank better. Lots of different opions on the tanks though.
Put it this way, if you want forward control, bigger front wheel, chrome rear disc wheel(I love it), different headlight, different chrome trim and you are tall enough, go for the C model. The reason I bought my 1200L is because this is the only one left at the dealer and I got a great deal.
If you look at the specs you'll find that the 1200C is only a half inch taller than the 1200 L. Personally I like the C with the forward controlls and larger tank. (still not big enough though).
The trim is also much nicer imho. Mine is vivid Black and Chrome, Chrome, and more Chrome.
i just liked the look that is how i justify being 6'1 and buying a low. my buddy has a dyna and it is lower than my 1200L and he is 6'3 it is what looks good to the indavidual that matter when selecting a model.
I test rode a 1200C and wow. Talked $$ to, they can come down $500 off MSRP and through other things at the end of the day and after tax..... 10.7K
Great price! I then see an 06 883 custom in Red - tagged at 6800 - I start thinking of all the things I could do (or add to the bike) with the 2600 price difference... I don't ride as often as I used to becuse my commute has changed, and since the kids have come my wife doesn't ride with me anymore...is the 883 enough for the occassional interstatemulti - hour trip?
So - is the 883 sufficiently powered? is 317cc and carbs really worth $2800
