Default Tire repair/replace

Today I had a leak in my rear tire, 2006 883C. I called the dealer I bought it from & he said if I got there in the next 1/2 hr he could get it right out. I showed up & he said no we don't fix leaks we only mount new tires!! So for a slow leak he wanted to sell mea new tire. I've only got 4500 easy miles & there's tons of tire left. Has anyone else had trouble with the dealer not fixing flats? Seems kinda chickens**t to me.
Any way I went to an independent & I'll pick it up in the morning.

First add on to my bike was a new tire. Less then 100 miles on it at the time but risking a patch job wasn't worth it for me...

I will ride a tubeless tire with a plug in it only far enough to get a new tire. My life is worth more than that.

I have patched tires that have picked up nails or what have you many times without a problem. And ridden on them until they were all used up. It seems that most dealers ahve the same polciy though. Could be they don't want to get sued or could be sales tactics...

First, I'd find out why it is leaking. It may just be the valve stem. If the tire has a nail in it, I'd just tube it and ride on. No big deal.

Convential wisdom most often dictates that damaged/punctured motorcycle tires be replaced, not repaired. Given the catastrophic results of having a tire go down rapidly at speed....particularly the front tire....it's kinda like buying a helmet....How much is your life worth? Believe me, I know this can be a costly solution. I once had to replace a new rear tire on a BMW I owned after only 8 miles. I picked up a nail/puncture while leaving the dealership.

Never had a leaking tire, but if I did, I'm sure I would have had problems with the dealer not fixing it. Hell, they won't fix anything else.

But, in fairness, I suspect insurance liability comes into play with regards to plugging tires, and that type of thing.
