Hey guys, I bought an 07pacific blue 1200 Custom in March and it's my first bike ever! I absolutely love it except for one problem. My gas light is coming on when I have 1/2 tank left. For example when I put around 110 miles on it my gas light comes on and when I stop to fill it up it will only take a little over 2 gallons. I already had the harley shop take a look at it and they replaced a couple of things but it's still doing it. Then when I asked them about it they said they were having to contact tech about it and they'd call me. That was about 2 weeks ago. I just want to know if anyone else out there is experiencing this same problem.
I am haven't taken it back to the shop yet. But I just got a 2007 1200C and when I did complain about it the first time. Their response was put several more tanks through it, because we overfilled it the first time, and it could be throwing off your sensor. That made me feel like they didn't want to look at it.
Do a search of the forum for "low fuel warning light" or variations of that. I have read that alot of folks have been having that problem. So far Mine has not done it. One thing I read was that afetr filling up, make sure you have the bike completely upright before turning the key on. I have done that each time and so far no problems. Any how welcome to the forum and enjoy the new bike!!
I've done that filled it up and made sure the bike is leveled even before turning the key to on. I made sure that I didn't overfill the gas tank. However, my low fuel light comes on at weird times. I just reset my trip odometer. Since my last fill up I'm at 94 miles, and my light is sometimes on and sometimes off, but from my calculations, with estimated MPG, my light shouldn't come on until about 180 miles from my last fill up.
My '07 1200C's gas light comes on at around 100 miles as well. This is the 4th tank of gas I've gone through and it comes on pretty much at the "needing 2.5 gallons" mark every time.
There are known problems with the sensors. Most seem to come on early. Mine originally stayed on all the time - the replacement park took over 2 months to order so if get it swapped out on warranty make sure you have them pull it AND then reassemble while they wait on the part - that way you can still ride by just checking your odometer.
Allsaid..I still watch my Odometer mostly - otherwise I'd be filling up ever 100 miles.
mines come on intermittenly, no matter how i fill up the tank and/or start it. the time that it comes on and stays on is usually around 112 miles, which would leave me to put in 3.0 gal. thats about37mpg, which is about what the internet says for city miles. dealer says 1.5 gal is when it should come on. as far as the intermitten, we replaced the sensor and that didnt solve anything either. they cant get a response from HD about the problem. i DID hear rumor that in the past few months, the factory main harness for the 07s has changed from the orriginal 07s... not sure if it has any effect on anything or not.
Yeah, they replaced the sensor on mine when I had my 1,000 mile service and yeah mine comes on about the 112-115 mark too. I'm in the same boat man, the dealership has been trying to get up with whoever they need to get up with for the past week anda half to try to find something out.
