Default 883 to 1200 help

Ok guys at the end of the summer or maybe when I go on vacation I want to hand my bike over to a buddy of my dads that is a expert harley mechainc to do the 1200 conversion on my 883. I know I have to change the jugs as well as the pistons and what not, but should I do anytihng with the heads I have read here and a lot of the things that are said are contradicting each other. Some say the 883 heads are better some say the 1200 are better. I was wondering whatanyone on here had experince with doing on their bike???? Also are their any other mods I should get done while I have the thing apart ??? thanks in advance forne help

I may be a moron, but I thought that jugs and heads were the same thing. When I did mine I changed to 1200 heads and Wiseco dished out pistons. I had the SE a/c and jet kit installed a few months before the 1200 kit. I have the 883 heads and pistons in my garage. You could also do Andrews N4 cams or SE cams, though I am not sure if you'd have to do anything in regards to the rockers. I paid just over 500 for the kit and 250 for the labor. All told I got out of the mechanic's for 863 and change, but I had a couple of other things taken care of too (rear tire). I didn't do anything else engine-wise, but the heads and pistons. My cams, rocker, and coil are stock. It woke the bike up quite a bit.

thats what I wanna do, but what I was told is you have to change out the jugs or have yours bored b\c the pistons are so much bigger. Do you have to upgrade the coil and all that to change out the cams ????

My cams and coil are stock 883. I just bought heads and pistons and had them put in. It works great. That kit you've linked to on ebay is pretty much what's in mine. Do it, I promise that you won't be disappointed.

I am going to do a 1250 conversion during the winter after the season is over. After alot of research I am going to go with a NHRS kit, they sell many different types of kits and the prices are good and they have great tech support. Here is a link.

This kit does not include the heads http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLE...mZ250064654562
883Sporty if that is what you got and from the price you quotedI believe you only got the cylinders and pistons swapped just like I did.
I got the 1250 kit from NRHS and it included cylinders, pistons and gaskets. I am using stock 883 heads and cams.

Jacket4256 if you get 1200 heads you need flat top pistons. If you stick with stock 883 heads then get the reverse domed pistons. I believe NRHS said stage 2 883 heads are a little better than stock 1200 heads. Stock 1200 heads are like a stage 1.5 compared to the stage work done on 883 heads.

I considered upgrading my 883, but really wanted the taller, highway gearing of a 1200, so I traded up.
If you want to see the gearing differences, they are listed in the owner's manual!

Port and polish your 883 heads by yourself and add some n2 or n4 cams, adding cams takes about15 minutes and a new gasket . It will scream and pull all the way to 7000 rpm. Mark..

The gearing of the 883 is fine with me. Since the conversion the bike vibrates quite a bit more but highway speeds are still not that bad on vibration to me and holy crap does it pull down low. [sm=smiley20.gif]
