Default Air Shocks Installed

Thanks to this forum the idea of air shocks was planted into my brain. Today I finally got around to installing them on my Nightster.

Got PN 54662-09 from a street glide (I believe) off Ebay. It is night and day difference.. I don't have to tense up every time I see a large bump coming or worry about rectal bleeding anymore.

Thanks for the instructions and forums on here for the instructions on how to do this.

For anybody that does this mod in the future, definitely change the oil in the shocks prior to installing them. When I got mine, they did have plugs in them but I'm guessing most of the oil drained out before somebody put the plugs in. Because only approx 2 oz of oil, total, came out of both shocks.. They should have 10 oz each.

Yeah, much smoother. I used to run them on my Sporty. Just yesterday I was thinking of putting them back on. My old bones will like it better...specially with the Hot Bike Tour coming up later this year.

my dyna needs these.... it's a pain machine, rear bottoms out constantly.

i'm looking at them on ebay right now. ?'s:
  1. why do they have a hose connecting the two in some auctions?
  2. what kind of oil are you adding to them?
  3. how are you getting the oil in?

What were you using before changing to air shocks? Did it raise you any? Although it is not bad, would love to give my butt a break to absorb some of the road bumps.

Your gonna love them!
I just installed the Schrader valve on each shock and the few times I change the pressure I just use a bicycle tire pump and a pressure gauge intended for quads as they read accurately from 1-15 PSI, it's a lot less messy than installing the hoses & stuff. I run 1 PSI by myself and 5-6 PSI with a passenger.
I did find the black paint a bit plain so I wrapped mine in some "carbon fiber" vinyl and added a thin red pinstripe where the carbon fiber ends just to finish the edge, might look silly to some but I think it looks better than just plain black paint.

Hose connecting the two with one valve ensures equal pressures in both shocks. I set mine up this way. connections can be had fairly cheap thru McMaster Carr or you could buy the kit that comes on the baggers from Harley.

Not sure on the oil questions, sorry. Mine were new takeoffs, didn't mess with oil.
