Just got this bike, only 7k miles. Ran bad on the way home, thought it was from sitting all winter. Changed the plugs, ran sea foam through it. Then it wouldn't start and when I push started it it still ran poorly. Decided to get a new battery, even though the auto parts place tested the battery and said it was good. With the new battery it started up and ran perfectly, I took it out and it was running great. After about ten minutes it went back to running like **** again. When it got to above idling rpms it would bog down and when I'd release the clutch it would do the same. Had to ride all the way home at about 20mph. Neighbor came by and hooked up electrical reader, says it's not recharging. What part do you think is bad? Stator? Voltage regulator? Something else?

Looks like you already picked out a few things to check out. Nobody on the Internet is going to know the exact cause for you. I'd probably start with the easiest of the few things to test that you posted about.

Stator can go bad. Happened to many of us, myself included. 7k seems a little early, it usually happens at 20k+. Anyhow, if it is stator get Cycle Electric upgrade kit, it is far superior to stock design and will last.

Here is the picture of stock stator, pretty much inevitable if you put some miles on your bike.

I might not be 100% right on this.....but if it's the stator then your voltage would be low. If it's the regulator then the voltage would be way too high. But like I said I may be mistaken.
