i have a 2009 XR1200. bought is used back in 2013.
2014 june the OEM battery died so i got a replacement from AUTOZONE. fast forward September the check engine light/battery light came on. took the bike home killed it then i restarted the lights went off. went to the dealership where i bought the bike from. talked to service manger he told him what was going on,he told me there was nothing he can for me i told him i got the extended warranty. is there any way to test the regulator? or stator/ or electrical system due to this code? he told me no.
so from 2014 to now still have the same problem... its getting worst.
replaced the relays
checked all fuses
wiring
ground lead
positive lead
everything looks normal..... problem getting worst back to dealership service manger says maybe regulator but not covered by extended warranty. but the booklet they gave me it shows the regulator is covered.
i knew i should have not bought a used bike. and everyone i talked said yea Harley Davidson is good and the dealerships offer good help and support.
boy what a freaking joke. can not even ride with the lights coming on.
I'm sorry to hear someone again locked into warranty system, first pay for warranty, then beg to get the coverage you paid for ... and in case of success you will end up with same crappy stock stator. All warranties are sold to make profit - on customers account.
My solution is different, be self insured/warranted. When something happens I'm the adjuster, I decide what to do, spend money on upgrade or buy stock part. And since I do not spend my hard earned money to light up some skyscraper and fill pockets of shareholders I have plenty to spend.
Stock stator is known point of failure, buy the bike new or used. Upgrade to Cycle Electric charging system and the problem will be gone forever.
But I do not know how to remove the stock stator or have the tools to do this. I understand it's under the primary and the clutch and drive assembly all have to come out to access it. I might end up getting rid of the bike and be done with this problem...I pay for something can't use it.. I felt like they took advantage of me! I can't afford a new bike so my riding days might be over with...
Thanks Harley Davidson for the bad experience and bad customer support after you got my money...
