Default changing handlebars

I recently purchased a pair of biltwell tracker bars that I want to give a try. I currently have the HD mini apes but I think the wires and cables are stock length. Anyway, I looked in the service manual and it says to disconnect the master cylinder and that involves bleeding the brakes, etc. I saw someone online did it without doing that and just want to make sure it's OK to do it that way. Also, I saw something about tying the brake lever to the grip? Is this also necessary? Just trying to have things figured out before I dive in. Appreciate any advice or tips. Also bars are dimpled and will be wired externally.

I'm sorry but I have to ask "what the heck did it say to do?" I don't know if that is standard operating procedure but I haven't done any of that junk. When I swapped bars I just popped the screws off and let the controls hang. Worked like a charm. I would highly recommend not disconnecting the brake line though. Unless of course you want a different length.

Edit: just reread and saw that was from the service manual. I think they just try to overwhelm people so they let the dealer do it.

Haha yeah I figured it was not necessary but wanted to be sure. Did you have to do anything with the brake lever? Also heard that somewhere and thought that was why it said to disconnect the master cylinder. Something like a pin will fall out or something? Maybe brake fluid comes out but I can't remember. Now I'm thinking maybe that was for changing levers or maybe for a different bike.

Like i said, I took the screws out and let it hang. I cant possibly see how anything would get damaged unless youre rough with it.

Well I went to go install the bars and when I got the left side switch housing off I noticed the grip had a ton of glue to keep it held in place. I'm going to order some grips and install the bars when I get them. It seems really easy to do the handlebar swap now that I know what you have to do.

You were right. I just wanted to be sure since I heard something about a piece that falls out but it turns out i was looking at something completely different. Anyway got to get grips now and I'll swap the bars when I get them.

There are actually two pieces that can fall out, as I discovered, but that was when dismantling the twistgrip and disturbing the switches in the right grip assembly. The service manual describes everything necessary to totally dismantle that part of the bike, so it is fine to take short cuts, such as leaving the controls as undisturbed as practical.
