Thanks for your help! Would the solids damage just me, or the bike as well?

that force needs to go somewhere. into you and the frame/bolts. it's a bad idea period but, people do it... for what, I don't know:

Shocks do more than cushion your ride. They push the wheel down on to the road when you go over bumps. I had a car with a bad strut, and the wheel bounced like a basketball when I hit bumps. By the time I got the strut replaced, the tire was damaged and needed to be replaced. Badly worn shocks/struts are a safety issue on a car, so I can't even guess what it would be like on a bike with a solid rear. Not wise IMO.

Thanks for talking me out of it! I'll definitely not go with the struts

With a new rear wheel, up to 180mm. There are several threads about doing the conversion.

That is the reason early rigid frames ran "LOW" air pressure in the tires. To absorb shock and not bounce like a basketball.

Hi, I know this is an old post but I wanted to let you know that I have already tried both option 2 and option 3 on my Dyna. Let me know if you are interested in feedback

I'd love to hear how option 3 went! Was this difficult to do?

Ive now put the burly slammer shocks on her, but would still love the fender to hug the rear wheel.

Thanks for getting back to me

In my case, I had a sheet of steel welded on top of my swingarm and cut the fender and bolted it in the sheet of steel. It did the job but from time to time the fender gets a little out of proportion..

I have since removed the rear fender and a lot of the chrome.. going to install rigid struts later today see how they look and feel. Going for the Bobber look on my bike. Here is a before & after pic

I installed front and rear slammer kit, I'm 5'2" and needed to lower the bike. I really like its look and now I'm flat footed. I'm on the lowest setting and it's STIFF but it's not terrible, I can deal with it
