As a possible aside....I just removed the air cleaner and it is very oily. Can't see daylight at all. I don't know how it was getting any air. I read in the FSM to wash in soapy water and not use solvents. Sure would be easier in my solvent (mineral spirits) tank. Any downside to washing in mineral spirits? Can that have affected the erratic idle or even the pinging? Thanks! Sorry to sound so much like a noob.

BTW, I personally think '94 is the best year for the Sportster/Evo. Congrats on a great purchase. Got pics?
Thanks for the comments. I'll be borrowing my wife's dish soap tomorrow. Too bad I can't just pop it into the dishwasher huh? That would really send her over the edge.
By the way, in the FSM regarding timing, it says to remove the timing mark cover and replace it with a HD part to view the timing marks. Guess a trip to the HD parts department is in order tomorrow.

If you're not in a rush, Drag Specialties has them for $4 or so. Ordered it one day at my Indy and had it the next day by lunch. Love my Indy.
