Default 94 1200 pinging when warm

I have a new to me 94 1200 with 5400 miles. As I mentioned in another thread, I changed the fluids and generally went over the bike so as to establish a new owner baseline. The oil had a strong smell of gas and I know I should overhaul the carb as it has been sitting for 3 years or so. In the meantime, I figured I'd run some Seafoam through to kind of clean things out in the fuel system. Now, after about 1 treated gallon later, the bike pings on acceleration when warm. Does the Seafoam lean things out enough to cause pinging? Coincidence? This is my first Sporty after about 40 other bikes and it sure is different than them all! Opinions please on getting rid of the pinging when warm. By the way, I checked the oil temp with a turkey thermometer (sorry honey!) and the highest reading was about 185.

Check your plugs. On cars you'll get pinging while accelerating on a hot engine when the spark plugs are worn out. Off the top of my head I think they are changed out every 7500 miles.

If it didn't ping before the seafoam I would drain the gas and fill up with good high octane gas and see if that helps.

I use seafoam regularly. Never had pinging due to seafoam.

I can't imagine Seafoam is the cause, either. In most cars, pinging can be caused by the timing being too far advanced or carbon on the pistons. I am running 91 octane, so the fuel isn't the cause. I'm going to change the plugs today and read them.

Check your ignition timing too. That should cover all common possibilities!

Too much seafoam in the fuel, will cause a hot ping. Some think that more is better.

Never had a Seafoam ping but that's not to say it's not possible.

I'd check the timing for sure and I believe the incorrect heat range on the plugs can cause a pinging issue as well.

Regarding the Seafoam, I put in 3 carefully measured ounces to a full 3.3 gallon tank. I am thinking the Seafoam is just a coincidence, but now that I am down a gallon from that, I'll fill it up with 91 octane and dilute it a bit and see if that makes a difference. I am getting hold of a timing light so as to check the timing. I have an FSM, by the way. Plugs should be changed out by tonight. I got the NGK DCPR7E as replacements. Didn't spring for the irridium though.

I would be all over the timing. What do your plugs look like? Rebuild the carb for sure with a good CVP kit. I would be checking that VOES also.
