So I am new to Harley's. Never owned one. I'm trying to get a sportster 883. Found a 2013 for 5k. But with almost 25000 miles!! Is that a bad thing and should I stay away from it? It is being sold by a dealership, not private party. Should I go ahead and buy it? Or spend couple more thousands and get one with less miles? Thank you!
The motor will last forever with the right maintenance. That is about the mileage that the clutch rivets start to worry many people. Not a bad price for the year. I.ve seen ten year old bikes go for the same price. If you like the bike I would try to talk them down and pull the trigger.
25k is nothing. Couple years ago, I bought a 2011 with 54k from the dealer for more than that....although our prices are normally higher due to higher shipping costs....but just in case they offered and I bought a 5-year of extended warranty in the event I encounter problems with major components.
I do most of the wrenching myself...so my bike still purrs. Never had problems. Sportsters are solid.
Suggest you take the bike out for a test ride....you will hear, feel, see potential issues.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. I can't comment on the price, but the mileage is nothing to be concerned about. If a dealer is selling it the bike should have a good service history and come with some sort of warranty, to give you peace of mind.
prime example: http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2...1200-118482441 2013 with 640 miles "asking" $6999. if you were needing to finance, hd themselves or your local credit union will help with the private party sale.

FWIW, I bought my '06 Sportster 1200 in 2014 with 27k on it. I just passed 40k and have only had to replace an ignition coil.
There is the post about the really low mileage bikes that can be found. Some would say that a 2013 bike with 650 miles on it was never properly broken in and has been sitting in the back of a garage dry rotting. buyer beware!
And HD will sell extended coverage on a bike up to 75k (and 12 yrs old). It's a nice peace-of-mind kind of thing, if a bit pricey.
Bikes in Cali seem to cost more than out east... if the sticker price is 5k though and its the bike you want... they will take 4500, or at least demand $500 in credit for the dealer... I was lucky enough to get my Nightster from a Ducati shop that took it on trade in, When thinking about trading in my Ducati on it I found out what they paid for used bikes, and used it to strong arm them into a price I want.
Rule #1, unless its a low production or rare vehicle, the asking price is what I call the "starting price"...
the dealer I went to dropped down to my price as I walked out the door, got em down $2,000 off their inflated asking price. (it REALLY helped that their market was ducati and triumph though, and they wanted this thing moved...)
