I have a 1998 sportster 883 that I recently bought. The speedometer lights up when turn the bike on, the odometer shows mileage on it.
The problem is, the odometer has had the same mileage reading since I bought it, it doesn't go up as I ride. Also, it doesn't show the speed while riding, just stays steady at 0.
I don't know if it's the same part that controls both things? Or if the person disconnected something to stop the mileage from counting.
So in looking into this further, I see where the speed sensor wore runs up under the seat and the plug is laying there not plugged into anything? Should the other end of the plug be right there under the seat? I tried tracing the main harness from the front of the bike / speedo area but can't find the other end of the plug or any cut wired where the plug may have been.
How can I find the plug or wire and how could I wire the speedometer to that end of the plug on the sensor to get the speedometer working again?
