Your horsepower increase, after your tune, should be about 1hp at about 6800rpms. Do you ride a lot at 6800 rpms?

Ha Ha, I don't ride in any of those conditions so no worries.

You do realize I showed that picture without the yet to be installed filter!

Now if we were talking off-road like my Polaris RZR 1000 then yes, would agree. LOL

And I don't think the Harley engine likes 6800 rpm very much.

I'm figuring with the air, pipe and tune mod I should be good for about 8-10 HP gain.

I know I can feel the difference.

So long as you are having safe fun, that's great! A little modification and butt dyno testing is part of the enjoyment of any m/c.

ditch the stock housing when the funds are available. that "ram" air intake is worthless. it's not helping the bike. like other said, you'd need to modify the backing to see any improvement... and that's just part of the overall equation.

Great pic and details...

Basically the black lower bracket...just lobb'd off the arms at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions. Kept the inner ring and vio-la all done. This was done to the OEM plastic backplate/box area. Now my K&N filter is totally open except for the stock ham-can cover which I don't mind.

After I did add the drag specialties "horse-shoe" breather piece so I could DIY my own clean air breather system.

NOW all the intake is done. AND didn't break the bank to get there.

I'm guessing the 8 to 10 hp claim was being sarcastic? Highly doubtful...

GOOD LUCK!

I stumbled across this thread while looking for something else. It has some really good info in it. I read through all of the posts (it takes a LOT of time) and found others that have improved the original post. I think I'm going to take some ideas from it and see what I come up with.

I got a Hammer performance air cleaner, good to 100 horse power. I really like it. Also eliminates oil mist getting sucked in my engine.

For several reasons, I wanted to keep the stock Harley AC and housing on my 2009 XL1200C. But I also wanted to loose that messy crankcase breather inside of it. To that end, I searched high and low.

Below is a picture of something I found by a long gone forum member (I think). I didn't come up with this idea, but it's one of the best I have found to date and is easy to do. Also, a simple and clean looking mod.

The parts are just a pair of silicone spark plug boots, some rubber hose, a plastic "T" and pair of straight fittings between the boots and hoses. The Air Cleaner itself also has to have the breather tube extensions on the back of it trimmed and sealed to make room for the spark plug boot "fittings".

I may also add an opening and additional air scoop on the bottom of the stock back plate. The idea is to give more access to fresh, cool air flow from the front, rather than siphon hot air from the cylinder jugs with holes on the AC back plate. Drawing hot air from the back of the AC plate seems counter productive.
