We just picked up a 1200 Low for my wife over the weekend and one of the first things she wants to do is remove that visor over the headlight. She likes the black headlight and wants it to be seen more. It appears the visor is there just for looks and it also hides some of the wiring. When I compared it to the 1200 Custom, which does not have the visor, the wires were exposed on the 1200C so having the wiring seen on the 1200L is no big deal. Does that visor serve some other purpose or is it alright to remove it?
I guess it's not really "exposed". You can just see the wiring run behind the headlight on the Custom but the visor on the Low keeps you from seeing those wires.
Interesting question. My headlight is adjusted through the "button" on the headlight's "eyebrow" but I can't remember if it would leave a hole in the top of the headlight if you remove it. I guess you'll find out! Let me know...
FYI, the visor is also the headlight mounting, C model has the light mounted on the lower triple tree. If you get rid of the visor, the headlight goes nowhere. I just ordered a new headlight, I have tried to find a way to mount the original black one on the bottom but didn't work.

Don't recall them having exposed wiring, but the visor is just for looks.

That's good to know. I'm sure she's going to be disappointed to hear that, but it is what it is. Maybe we can find her a new black headlight that will mount to the lower tripple tree.
I was told by HD parts guy that the visor was there to cover up the fact that the headlight housing is not chromed! So like the others have stated, serves no purpose!
I don't know about early model but 04-07 chrome visor is the mounting bracket of the headlight, I have actually removed the headlight, it is mounted on the top. What HD parts guy is he? If you don't believe what I said, take a look at this.
Watch out guys, there is a poster on here that will slam anyone wanting to modify their own bikes and ask why didn't they buy a different version first LOL! Sorry, could not resist!
I agree with you on the headlight issue. I am eventually changing mine to the bigger chopper style light and all that is required is drilling a mounting hole in the triple tree.
