XLH used to be for high compression, back when it was actually a higher compression version of the standard XL. Pretty quickly the XL and XLH merged and they meant the same thing.
Specifically for 2002, the model list is as follows:
XLH883 - 883 Standard
XLH883H - 883 Hugger
XL883C - 883 Customer
XL883R - 883 Roadster
XLH1200 - 1200 Standard
XL1200C - 1200 Custom
XL1200S - 1200 Sport
In 2004, they dropped the H out of any of them and they all became XL. Prior to that, there were some XLH and some XL, but they're the same.
Unless you go back 30+ years to the ironheads, then it gets more important.
