Question XL1200 vs XLH1200

On some sites to order parts I don't see my model which is the XL, I see XLH and vis versa. ARE they the same? Mine is a 2002 XL1200

The tag XLH is a throw-back to earlier models, last used around 1990. All the 2002 models are XL, then either 1200 or 883, with a following letter or several. In addition to your model there were 1200C and 1200S that year.

XLH used to be for high compression, back when it was actually a higher compression version of the standard XL. Pretty quickly the XL and XLH merged and they meant the same thing.

Specifically for 2002, the model list is as follows:

XLH883 - 883 Standard
XLH883H - 883 Hugger
XL883C - 883 Customer
XL883R - 883 Roadster
XLH1200 - 1200 Standard
XL1200C - 1200 Custom
XL1200S - 1200 Sport

In 2004, they dropped the H out of any of them and they all became XL. Prior to that, there were some XLH and some XL, but they're the same.

Unless you go back 30+ years to the ironheads, then it gets more important.
