Yes wheels make a difference.

As mentioned above biggest gain come from less un-sprung weight and also offers less "gyro" effect.

As for sport, again as above, tires will make a very big difference.
OEM is 16 and 19 inch. Going to 18 18 well, that's your decision.

Good luck in your mod-ing!

I'd go with mags just for the sake of maintenance. Improved handling might be a side effect. For the twisties, definitely go with stickier tires.

Also remember that when speaking of rotating mass, a slightly heavier wheel amplifies gyroscopic stabilization. A heavier wheel wants to roll straighter. Just sayin'.

I changed from cast to spoke (fat spoke) and I really can't feel the difference. Cast was 19" and spoke is 21". As Cvaria said, looks really changed. The only downfall with spoke wheels (besides cleaning) is you need to install a tube versus cast tubeless....so easier to repair if you get a flat while riding...JMHO.

If you really want to improve the handling of your bike keep your current hubs and have them relaced with proper sized rims. A 18" x 2.5" upfront and a 17" x 3.50" or 4.25" out back. You might be able to squeeze a 3.5 upfront if you removed the fender. You'll be reducing unsprung weight from where it matters most

Same rims that come on the new Triumph Thruxton...http://www.buchananspokes.com/produc...minum_rims.asp

Personally, I dont think it matters much unless you go with something
like the BST Carbon Fiber wheels like mentioned above.

Might check out http://www.hdwheels.com/ for a 'different' look.
They can lace a wheel where its definitly noticeable that its
'not stock'.

hth,

T.
