Hey folks. I changed my name from 00BlueDyna, since I don't have that bike anymore, to a name which isn't affiliated to a particular bike. Highway Star, one of my favorite old Deep Purple tunes.
Anyway, after adjusting my handlebars and the positions of my clutch and front brake levers on my '06 Sportster, I'm having problems with my front brake light switch making the brake light stay on.
I looked up some old threads, and it seems to be a common problem, although I've never had a problem with it on any of my other Harleys. I loosened the housing up a few times, and re-assembled, and made sure everything was lined up, but still have the problem. Nothing seemed to be broken, and the rubber boot was still there.
I ended up cutting a small shim out of a piece of balsa wood, and superglued it to the rubber boot. It solved the problem for now, but I don't really expect that to hold up for very long. I read something in an old thread about a spring clip that is inside, but I didn't see anything like that on mine. The switch works fine, but is not getting depressed far enough by the lever. I didn't have a problem until I changed the handlebars. If it's just a matter of purchasing a spring clip, that would be great.
Hi JT, take a look on-line here, to see if you have anything missing on your bike. There is a small 'clip' item #10 which may have made a break for freedom and is easily lost. It is a brass coloured spring, V in cross-section and goes behind the brake light switch. Go to post #12 in my thread here, to see the little blighter!
