It's an unusual day for January here. 75* and sunny.
I just got back from 3 hours of riding some country roads.
I don't usually pay attention to speed/rpm/vibration, but given this thread I was paying close attention today.
4200-5000 rpm in 5th gear is 74-88 mph (120-140 km/h), and at 4200 rpm I could feel a very small increase in buzzing in the grips and pegs. As I increased rpm's the buzzing increased, but never to an irritating point. At that speed, without a windshield, the wind is what is much more noticeable to me.
The majority of my riding is done at 50-70 mph, popping up to 90 mph every now and then.
If I were doing a larger percentage of my riding on the interstate/in the 70-90 mph range, I would probably switch from 883 gearing to 1200 gearing.
That would put my rpm in the range of 3600-4200 for those speeds.
What is excessive buzzing/vibration is probably different for everybody...sort of like what is loud or not loud enough is different for everyone.
Soren, I'm looking forward to your visit, to see what your take is on our Sportys here.
A few years back I had a bike that twisted the crank, just a little. But I knew it did, because it was vibrating more than it had previously. Had the runout checked, and it was still "within spec", but not by much.
What bothered me was that I had over 50K miles on it with much less runout, and so while it was still "within spec", the extra vibes bothered me.
Since you have said yours only has extra vibration some of the time, I would lean toward some intermittent factor causing it/compounding it.
btw, I have had a bike that I did twist a crank in, enough that it was out of spec. Got a new engine, under warranty.
