Kevin, what kind of paint did you use?
Im looking at these right now:
PJ1 Fast Black Epoxy Paint - provides a high gloss, porcelain-hard finish for all motorcycle frames and other metal components that require a factory-like durable finish
Amazon Amazon
-

VHT gloss black - Gives the appearance of a baked-on finish
Amazon Amazon

KRYLON 3206 Appliance Epoxy Paint - Cheap
Amazon Amazon

ok, so I was able to figure out that as long as I take off the calipers, both forks basically drop out of the trees! Should make painting pretty simple, I dont have to mess with the forks.
Only thing Ive got left to figure out then is how to get the headlight out of the way...
anyone got a trick?

I used some self etching primer, and some satin black enamel. Both picked up at Home Depot...wish I could remember the brand...but I don't.

I believe the key to getting a good rattle can paint job is in the prep.

Use a degreaser, or some sort of solvent to get everything off the metal surface...and anything that might be in the pores of the metal.

Then clean it with alcohol.

Then use a tack cloth

Then use some self etching primer.

Once that is done, then use the tack cloth again before doing several light coats of the paint.

Should be in your service manual....from your sig pic it looks like you have the headlight that is bolted to the headlight hood. Pry up the cap/plug to get to the nut to remove the headlight from the hood. OR, you could just remove the two fasteners holding the hood to the top tree, then remove the hood and the light together.

You can see online diagrams of everything at this link-

Oh thats not a problem, I got that off. But! The wire that the headlight is connected to has no 'serviceable' connector, so the question is now that its not bolted in place, how do I undo the wire its connected to.

There is a connector inside the headlight bucket. Pull it apart and you will see it.

But I'm pretty sure there is a connector outside the bucket too....my manual is at the shop. But when I look at the diagrams in the link above...it seems like there is one...it probably connects under the tank somewhere.

Yeah but getting to the one under the tank is a PITA lol
but it might be my only option, as Im sure the connector inside the bucket is larger than the hole in the bucket :/

IT LIVES!!!
No wait...
ITS APART!!
Thats it!

Right hand axel cover jam nut stripped out, luckily a small pry bar popped that right off. Off to the chrome sale table they go.
Now that its all apart, I can wait for some warm weather (this weekend looks nice) and paint, and until then Clean clean clean!
