2002 1200 Custom
"Stock"...Well,those Screaming Eagles are from Harley, but weren't on the bike when it rolled off the line.
Technically, probably not legal...look at the info stamped on the muffler
Believe the difference is the mounting lugs.
These mufflers have no catalyst honey comb material.
Both were 50 state legal including CA.
2002 was only tier 1, CARB at 1,4 :-/kg for HC & NOX
2008 went to tier 2 emission level for C A R B and 2010 for other 49 states all l at 0,8 g/km for HC & NOX.
First year for 1200 catalyst muffler was 2004 & the last year was 2006 in CA.
H-D catalyst muffler p/n is 65232-04 and used in 883 & 1200 prior to 2007 with introduction of EFI in 2007.
Another catalyst muffler is 65171-98A used on 2003, 883 , front head pipe location.
All catalyst mufflers were used in front head pipe, only, none in the rear location.
Has H-D name on both mufflers but mounting lugs are slightly different.
There is a metal plug in the center of the cylindrical baffle, typical of H-D mufflers to create back pressure for low end rpm torque.
engraved printing indicates it is part of a 1999 exhaust system.
Since the OEM mufflers are -97, I would guess these mufflers meet 2002 CARB standards and are 50 state compliant for 2002 XL1200C.
Have these mufflers in original shipping box in the barn. Field mouse had been living in the Baffle, will use these mufflers on custom clone.
Like the salami cut.
Notced the disclaimer with exhaust system manufacturers and retailers, but no language on air intakes.
Air intake changes & carburetor jetting have more affect on emission levels than pipes and mufflers for stage 1 modifications.
After all any 2007 & up can be mapped to meet CARB & EPA standards no matter what stage 1 equipment is installed
