Default Iron 883 forward controls??

I have a buddy looking to buy a new Iron 883, but he wants the forward controls for ride comfort, I was just wondering how much would it cost to have this done at the dealer or how hard/cost effective to do it one's self?? I'm pretty mechanically inclined myself on most aspects but haven't messed around a lot with motorcycles other than basic maintenance and a few clutch and suspension jobs. I was told by a dealer it's not something that's easily done to move the controls forward yourself is this true???

On a Iron it is bolt on, nothing special.

Just buy the correct set for the buildyear or you can mod a earlier set to the 2017 model, I found out.

easy to do, all the holes are there just a matter of bolting them on. probably the most difficult part is removing the front muffler so you can get the mid's off. maybe an hour job if you go slow.

Thanks for the info guys I looked at jp cycle and seen how simple of a design it is to bolt on, not to sure why the dealer said it was complex.

that's because the factory brand forwards come fully disassembled, you have to put everything together, with the crap instructions they supply, before you bolt them on. but that still doesn't make it worth paying the dealer to install.

An alternative approach, which my wife and I chose, is to simply add highway pegs, which gives two riding positions. Works fine!

To install the forward controls you must remove the front exhaust pipe and on my Iron (2016) i had to remove both front and rear exhaust because the pipes are attached together. But it was still not difficult to do and definitely provides a better riding position (for me anyway). Funny how the dealers always tell you its too difficult. If you're going to be two up, add the passenger pegs while you're at it. Need to remove the exhaust for those too.

Well, my buddy ended up buying a used 2013 iron with the forward controls already installed the bike fits him perfect only being about 5,9. The bike has all kinds of extras saddle bags, deluxe seat with passenger seat, sissy bar with pad, luggage rack, python exhaust system, The bike has 16,000 miles on it tho, we had thought the dealer said 1600 because he said it was real low miles and of course he lied and we didn't double check.... It was 6900 said and done think he overpaid??? was it worth buying?? I have noticed a weird sound coming from the motor tho after he drove it 100 miles home, almost sounds like when lifters go bad in a car could the motor be shot already? the damn thing pulls strong but I've never owned or drove an iron till I drove his. It doesn't do too bad keeping up to my wide glide if I ride normally and don't hot rod around.
