So, i bought a 1996 Sportster EVO 883 a while back, and have been 'tinkering' with it for a few months, to get it how i like of course (like we do!).
I actually rode the bike on the road for the first time last weekend, and the transmission is IMHO, very noisy.
The noise is more apparent in 2nd, 3rd and more in 4th gear, and in 5th it disappears completely. Its really hard to describe, but it sounds like a bearing type noise or gear meshing? its speed related (higher the speed, higher the pitch), and sort of has a 'whoo whoo' noise to it???
It definitely doesnt sound right to me, although i took it along to my local garage (the guy there is a HD man) and he rode the bike. Now he did say it sounded normal to him and not something he would worry about, but i am convinced its not right.
Does anyone on here have a similar bike and would like to compare noises!?!
Sportsters are noisy machines. Without hearing it in person it's tough to tell. Just make sure your primary fluid is good and your primary chain is adjusted properly and you should be good....also make sure your clutch is adjusted.
