My dad is looking to replace the master cylinder rear axle on his 2005 Harley sportster 1200c but we had trouble finding tutorials/guides/videos online showing how to do it for that motorcycle specifically.
If anyone knows or can share any good videos/step-by-step instructions on how to do it to help my dad out would be great!
Ah, my dad must've said it to me wrong then? He did just come home from work so he was probably a bit tired. That's probably why I wasn't getting that many results when I looked it up. I'll try looking it up again. Thanks!

it just unbolts. Its in the service manual. It's the rear master cylinder. It sits behind the engine under the swingarm in a 2005. Follow the hose coming from the rear fluid reservoir.
Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Between us we can help, so clarify what your dad is up to. Tell him the factory service manual is great for working on his bike and answers many questions, available from his local friendly dealer. Avoid the cheap aftermarket books.
Thanks!! My dad bought his Harley used from the previous owner so I'm not sure if he has the service manual or not. I'll tell him about the service manual though and where he should get one if he doesn't have one. I'm not exactly sure what he is doing to the bike but I'll update that later when I can get ahold of him!

My 2005 Sportster uses DOT 5 brake fluid. Check the writing on the fluid's reservoir cap. It will say what type of brake fluid to use. DO NOT mix DOT 4 with DOT 5.
Master cylinder re-build kits are available, and less than 30 bucks, IIRC. It helps to have a bench vise for the re-build operation. The re-build kit will come with instructions. Might as well do the brake pads, too, while you have the system open. Clean the caliper's piston, with brake cleaner and a shoe string (with a back-and-forth, shoe-polish motion), before pushing the piston back into the caliper.
