I love my (wife's) 48. I've never even ridden a '72. Actually, when I first saw the 48 announced by Harley, I fell in love with the look. I love riding it! It's just plain old fun!
After having owned several large and small front tire Harleys, I'm kinda sold on big fat front tires. But, I'll be honest, I'm not sure it's a handling thing as much as a look thing.
If you like both, it really is a toss up. They're going to ride similarly enough... The mileage is interesting, but as someone pointed out, that is probably a single season's worth of riding. Heck, if I rode out to Sturgis, I could make up half that differential right there easily enough! LOL
