HD Download (CA)
Yesterday was kind of exciting. I had my 1st service performed on my first bike. I also found out the break-in went well. During the wait though, I spoke with a few techs about different upgrades, so I just want to quote what I was told about the Pro Street Tuner with the HD download in California.
From the start it was about how great it would be for my bike, until I told told them that, if the EPA makes HD lean out a bike this much and restrict the purchase options for stage 1 anything so much. Surely you wouldn't be allowed to make such a drastic change to the fuel. So in response I was basically told that it's a noticeable improvement at best, along with;
"The EPA in California is so strict that with the tuner and download, the bike goes from California stock lean to about Arizona stock lean."
I was also told; No matter which route I choose, "DO NOT install a hiflow intake without doing something to the fuel." That, "it's just way too lean for that when stock. But exhaust changes wouldn't matter."
The 2014 and newer bikes with the heated O2 sensors actually run a little richer than the earlier models in the cruising range.
None of the HD stage 1 tunes I have looked at run anywhere near the max fuel mileage AFR of about 15.5 to 1.
You can download the HD Pro Street Tuner software and look at the available tunes without having the VCI to attach to the bike.

Use 10 1s for the VCI serial number.
