Default Enriching EFI

I want to keep my 2016 Roadster basically stock, but I'd like to modify the super lean factory fuel settings, to eliminate popping and running hot.

What are my options? If this has been discussed a lot, a link to a relevant thread would do.

Edit: oops - just saw the fuel section. I probably should have browsed there first.
Move or delete if this is the wrong place for it.

The Tech Fuel section is OK, but with a model-specific query like yours you're better off staying in here, asking fellow Sporty owners!

Ran, and had good luck with, VIEDs for a couple of seasons.
No complaints, worked exactly as described. Just upgraded to PV tuner.

I know you always read and hear how lean the EFI bikes run.
My experience with Power Vision Auto tune shows that my engine was actually running rich more than lean. Maybe I just got a bad engine

Above 4000 rpm and 50-60% throttle my bike was running 7.5-10% richer than the fuel table would lead you to believe based on the reduction in the VE tables. The fuel table is set 12.5 to 1 which is max power rich for gasoline at MAPs above 80 kPa in my stock tune software version 176.

The latest HD tunes are slightly richer in most areas since they updated the ECM software to version 374 and changed the tunes to Lambda based and added the heated O2 sensors.

It seems like the Power Vision gives the options for EFI control without changing the ECU. I especially like the gauge feature. The HD SE Street tuner for the 2014+ models doesn't allow AFR/Lambda changes in the fuel table.

Which fuel table are you referring to. Also, was it a new bike?

I'm assuming you hooked up the PV, ran it a bit, and then it gave you some kind of chart of current running conditions, which you compared to what was supposed to be the stock program?

Forgive my ignorance. I've been riding a long time, but have always had carbs. I just got my first EFI bike last week, and am feeling kind of lost
about where to start with it.
Maybe it's actually running like it should, but I really had my last Sportster dialed in, and it seems like it ran smoother, especially at lower rpm's.

.

Let me clarify. I ran X14ieds for a year before I got my PV. But if I had a stock bike I would just run Xieds till I learned more about the ECM and you know ya aint gonna keep it stock. Especially if you stay on this website. Warning you will be corrupted.

I bought my bike new in 2013.

When you attach the Power Vision it saves a copy of your stock tune.
I've run about 15 Auto tune sessions with the Power Vision.

The AFR Table can be seen in the WinPV Software along with the VE Tables (air flow), Ignition timing and many other "tune" settings.

You can download the WinPV software and several various Sportster Tunes from DynoJet and look at the tables in the tunes.

You can also download the HS SE Pro Street Tuner software with the Stage 1, 2 and 4 tunes from Harley Davidsion's web site and look areound at the tunes. Use all 1's for the VCI serial number.
Harley has a good Tuner training video on the web-

.

Click HERE for an overview on EFI tuning options...there are more than a few, but this overview is a good primer.

That low rpm stutter/hesitation is typical for the EFI Sportys from the factory...the tune is too lean. It is also easily fixed...see above overview.
