That 'visor thing' actually mounts your headlight! Secures it to your top tree. My SuperLow also has one, as do most Sportsters, a distinctive Harley feature that goes back into the distant mists of time. You and I aren't the first to install a windshield above one, be assured it doesn't affect fitting one of those shields. Take a look at the H-D website and the Shop tab, where you can see that shield installed on a bike.
This is not a particularly good photo, but it shows my SuperLow, which is essentially the same as your bike, with the shield mounted and the qd fittings. I can get the tip of a little finger between that visor and the underside of the shield and you can see there is a bit of scope to lift the shield higher. Frankly you don't look much different while seated to me! You and one of those shields are going to be fine - honest guv!
Mine came from a Sportster 1200 touring superlow. Its 14 inches and works good. I have a new glass for it that's 16 inches. Ill put it on when this one gets beat up.
