Default What else?

Good evening esteemed riders,

I am gearing up to replace tappets (aka lifters) on my 2007 XL1200L. Seeing I am dismantling a fair bit anyway, I am seeking your suggestion on other parts/issues that I should replace/fix/address. I have two goals in mind:
  1. Replace things that might fail in the next 50k miles. The bike has some 45k miles on it and after I am done replacing the tappets, I would hope to not have to reopen her up again for at least another 45-50k miles.
  2. Make improvements to reduce noise.
Here are the parts I have:

- S&S Cycle Roller Hydraulic Tappet Lifter Set 33-5350
- Front and rear breathers (HD p/n 26012-07 and 26020-07)
- Rockout rocker shaft inserts
- all gaskets from the cylinder head gasket and above.
- all gaskets from the tappet cover gasket and above.
- Air cleaner backplate gasket

Anything else you recommend I replace, either to reduce noise or because it's likely worn out or will wear out by 100k?

Thank you!

(And if in my list above, you know of a better part than stock, please let me know too.)

Not joking, that's for when I hit 100k on the odo. That's why I don't want to open her up again until then.

Arghh, from reading the links you provided, it's obvious that cams are just for increased performance, not to reduce noise. I think I'll pass.

But I do intend to go 1275 one day... I just need to save up.

BINGO

Even after installing rocker lockers the cam noise well over compensated for any noise loss from the lockers. They say it sounds like a sewing machine. I'd say it sounds like you're in a sewing machine factory! lol

I have heard some cams are less noisy than others. I have Andrews N4.

Do you think it's worth changing just to reduce noise? I am not in pursuit of absolute silence btw.

I wasn't saying some cams are less noisy than stock. I meant some aftermarket cams are less noisy than other aftermarket cams. The stock are as quiet as you can get for cams I believe.
