Ive only rode sportys, but im now 47, and my wife now has a freewheeler, so she wants to start doing longer runs.
for those who have ridden both, what am I going to love and hate about moving over to a softtail? Im 5 foot 7, but actually the softtail is lower. I love stop light to stoplight speed, and the maneuverability of the sporty in tight spots....
a test ride really isnt helping....big decision, always a sporty man, but I also believe the softys are good bikes as well. hell, I dont know. lol
Real easy to drag floorboards. Lots of heat, we've all heard that complaint about BTs but some slim owners seem to really be upset about it. Oil cooler, heat deflectors, and tune might go along way to help. I test road one, love the look but couldn't do it. I can ride through out the day just fine on my Roadster, not interstate droning for hours but I don't want to do that period.
Slim owner here, (previously owned a sportster and low rider) yes a lil heat issue, went with a crotch cooler from Capt Itch, no issues great product , The slim does have the tendency to drag foot boards overall the ride is great!
Low seat height real nice balance the 103 and the six speed in the slim just works, if you jump to the Fls S, with the 110 wow and cruise! I am vertically challenged, (5'3") lol so the slim is perfect for me. The geometry with the slim and 16" wheels is just right tracks and turns great. The factory seat is a ? Recommend the mean city cycle memory foam mod for the seat. With a detachable windshield and the two other mods I mentioned I can easily ride hundreds of miles a day and not be fatigued other then sun burnt.
If the M8 ends up in the slim with no seat height changes I will be broke.
Test ride one.
