Thinking about getting a Ulysses as a back up to the RKC, I commute in Miami a lot and the heat scares me. I plan to trade the 2007 KLR on it, good bike but vibrates too much in the bars above 75mph, not worth much but might keep the OL frrom saying no plus I have no room left in my garage. Anyexperience here with Buellson a long ride and in general?
Masterblaster, we almost bought one, but the wife decided to get her V-Strom instead. I test rode the Ulysses both by myself and 2 up. It has a lot of torque and while I didn't get it past 65 it handles really well, there's not a lot of buffetting coming off the windshield either, seemed pretty smooth as well. Seat height is shorter then the KLR. If ya want to talk to someone who's put a lot of miles on one call Ft. Myers HD, one of the managers down there has one and he and his wife have ridden to the mountains. Nothing but rave comments from them. Ft. Myers let me test drive it all I wanted and were even willing to let me have it for 24 hours, before I pulled the plug and said no. Still wish the wife had wanted that over the V-Strom.
I have a Uly & it' one of the funnest rides I've had in 30+ yrs!
The ride is great - very smooth w/power on demand.
The only thing I really don't like is the stock seat. Corbin makes one for it, but MeanCity said he could fix it up with better foam & shape. That's probably the way I'll go.
Yep this is one underrated motorcycle probably due to it's somewhat unconventional look. We had one as a demo and anyone that would even glance at it we would talk them into riding it, The only negetive comment we recieved was it's tall stance. I've rode it many times and would highly recommend it!
I just talked to a guy today who bought one last summer and put almost 5000 miles on it. He loves his. Says it's the only bike he has had so far that his wife will ride on.
Check out www.advrider.com. They have a very good Uly section on there.
I had a Uly last summer, put around 5,000 miles on it and traded it in on my Street Glide. I put a Buell race kit on it (sounded like a Sporty with the "race" muffler), and it had plenty of *****. Probably one of the funnest bikes I've owned, but my wife and son hated it (I had sold an '03 FLHRCI to buy the Buell, and they missed the Harley). They thought the Buell looked to much like a rice-burner. The only two things that bothered me were the steering lock and the fan (sounds like a blow dryer on high). I know they've addressed the steering lock on the '08's, but I think the fan is still going to be an issue.
