I just hit the 500 mile mark yesterday.I was planning on taking the bike out on the interstate late Sunday night when there wasn't much traffic and opening the baby up. ( I haven't gone over 60 MPH during the break in period.) But then I noticed oil leaking from the inspection cover. I plan on contacting the stealership tomorrow. In the meantime, does anybody have any idea what could be causing this oil leak on a bike with low mileage ?
My 1200L leaked the first day I picked up the bike, after the winter storage, it leaks again(2000miles at that time). My leak came from the chain inspection cover, I changed the gasket and fixed the leak. I can take it to the dealer but no time, costs me $4 for the gasket, no big deal. I suggest you to chase the oil leak first, it could be inspection cover, derby cover o-ring or the big cover gasket.
Sometimes oil leak on the primary cover is hard to chase, it could be starting from the inspection cover then leak all the way to the bottom. One thing I would check is use the flash light the shine the inspection cover bottom gap, if you see oil there, there is a chance of leakage. It drove me nuts for a while, it seems to be good now, just hit 4,500 miles today.
There is no other way to check the level without taking the derby cover off. After I fix a leak, I drain everything out and put 32oz in, I do not want to open the derby cover to check level, seems to be trouble that way, drain and fill is easier, nothing to worry about.

Same problem here, only 300 miles. Going to make a trip to the dealer this week. Does anybody know if there is a way to check the primary fluid level?
I bought a new inspection cover gasket but I noticed a glob of blue loctite on the inside of the cover. I cleaned it up, I really think that the loctite was preventing a good seal, and the gasket was fine. This did stop the leak. I would guess I might of lost maybe a 1/4th of a quart. Would it be wise to maybe add a splash of oil through the cover? And what type of oil specifically would be good ?
(I'm not sure that I want to drain and refill, I'm taking the bike in Monday for the 1,000 mile check but I want to ride until then.)
