Default Starter cover ????
Does anyone know if I have to take off my pipes to install a chrome starter cover on my 01' XL 1200 custom?

It says that it covers both the starter motor and the starter solenoid. It is a bolt on part that I just ordered from harley.

I'd imagine it'd be a little crammed without them off. I think you'll need to get behind the rear pipe to get to some of the bolts( i could be wrong) and theres not that much space between the rear pipe and the frame. It's probably better to take the pipes off rather than risking scratching them. But then again, no part has been easy to install on my 2000 like it was on the 07 dyna we have, and ive dropped tons of screws and tools into the rear part of the bike trying to install stuff without taking the pipes off and its a major annoyance to take them out.
