I'm pretty particular about maintenance, adjustments, tires, etc on the Harley. Not so much so on my Jeep. But then again...last year: 15,000 miles on the Harley less than 300 on the Jeep.

I just did the 5000 mile maintenance on my bike but could not get to it all at once. They want you to replace fork fluid, take apart each brake and clean and replace and lube certain parts. I have three calipers. etc etc. I was quite surprised at the list of requirements at the 5000 mile check. I don't have my manual handy but there has to be at least a half dz or more assemblies on the bike they want you to take apart and rebuild, reseal, etc etc. I cant afford to take it to a dealer and have them do everything . Which by the looks of it the labor alone would cost over 500 dollars. So I take it one piece at a time one week the two front calibers get their maintenance and the next week if there is time I will do the rear and so fourth in order of importance. Nothing looks to difficult just don't have the time or money to do it all at once.

I don't think I will worry about it too much.

I don't have time for maintenance, I just want to ride.

When it's time for a oil change, I think I'll justtrade in the bike.

j/k

I was mowing my lawn this afternoon, when I noticed my lawnmower making a squeaking noise. I checked the oil and the dipstick was dry. I put some oil in and problem solved.

But it reminded me of this post and I couldn't help but chuckle.

That reminds me, I have not changed my lawn mower oil yet this year. Was going to, just never have yet.

Right now, we have not seen any rain for about 6 weeks, so I don't need a mower.

Just keep riding!

Every automobile, motorcycle, Atv I own, I do the following.
1. Change fluid on time
2. Check all the bolts every 5,000, common sense, I don't follow the manual but make sure they are tight.
3. Belt and chain(motorcycle and Atv only) adjustment
4. Every ride, check lights, oil level, signal, horn, tire pressure, etc.

I do my maintenence on time but I'm not **** about it. I don't have the time to do things that don't need it.

I sometimes do the maintenance 50 miles early or late, but I do it. Even adjust the valves on my 4 stroke weed eater.

I'm about 50/50, I change the oil on time, check lights & tires & belt regularly but I'm not going to start rebuilding calipers every 5000 miles, that sounds a bit extreme to me.
