My 883r will normally run smooth in top around 50mph
But now it has developed a heavy vib very similar to going over a ribbed surface or like driving over a cattle grid but not so bad
If I drop a gear and increase revs it goes.
This is not the norm, I’ve looked at mounts but don’t know what to look for or what is normal
Sounds like you have achieved resonance (did I spell that right?). If a different part of your bike is oscillating (such as a bad wheel), and the vibration of the engine coalesce together: [google "Tacoma Narrows Bridge].... that is my over-complicated theory. Good luck!!
You said you looked at the mounts. Not sure what you mean by that. But make sure the motor mounts are torqued to spec. I'm speaking of the mounts at the front of the engine and attached to frame. There's a few bolts there. Check them all. I've had one of the bolts to the engine block come lose on me.
Another culprit can be a wheel out of balance. Prob front one.
Not sure your experience, but maybe the vibe you're describing is due to you trying to ride at too low an rpm. These bikes like to be closer to 3k rpms. If you're trying to putt around a 2k you're going to lug (shake, vibe).
I was looking at the head stabiliser mounts, not main engine mounts.
I Will check the main mounts if there are any bolts loose, I’ve had other bolts come loose over the past
So hope it may be something like this.
