Look. Another battery thread... Like the 4th one or such that I've seen in the last week or two.

Presume that is a question.

Prepare for perhaps a slew of differing opinions....

My 2 cents... From what I've read here and on other forums, HD batteries tend to have a good reputation. However, I believe you'll pay a premium for the HD logo on the side. Deka makes HD's batteries. You can get essentially the same Deka battery for less. Look online for a good price on a Deka AGM in the appropriate size. For recent model Sporty's, that would be a ETX14L.

You also might be able to find a Deka ETX14L under one of their off/generic brands for a good price.

I've seen the Deka ETX14L's going in the low $70 range online. Compare that to the HD battery at $115.

T2, you had some good info, but why start it with a negative comment. If you didn't like the battery post skip it. I'm sorry you read 3 posts about them in 2 weeks. I didn't know asking for an opinion was not allowed unless it was a question you felt worthy. For your information, I posted the same question twice, I could not see how to delete one, so I needed a battery and edited the post for ANOTHER battery question.

Here is some info I put together about a year while shopping for a new battery.

I bought the HD battery, I liked the solid terminals,
I didn't like the Deka terminals with the extra spacer.

2013 Sportster battery
HD part number 65958-04B
Fits '15-later XG, '04-later XL and '08-'12 XR models. Also fits BuellŽ 1125R/CR models.

The ETX14L battery is made by East Penn / Deka in Lyons, PA. It is a true American designed, American loved, genuine made in USA power sport battery!
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): 220

It is no secret that East Penn manufactures the OEM Harley Davidson battery under the part number 65958-04.
It is also no secret that East Penn also sells the ETX14L battery to major automotive box stores under various private labels
as well as to other prominent franchises, brands and online stores. Don't let the sticker fool you, take notice of the unique
Harley Davidson replacement battery case and terminal structure to confirm you are looking at the same product.

I wouldn't get all wadded up about the snark (after all - all are guilty of it at one time or another). Instead I'd be happy with the useful info and be on my merry way to getting a deal on a battery.

Saw a Deka ETX14L over at Amazon... $72. Free Shipping.

Consider AGM Lithium battery...I run a 16 cell 480 CCA battery that is a lot smaller than the stock battery which created more room in the battery compartment for other things. No more hesitation when starting the bike. You can go a very long time without charging unless you have parasitic drain.

i agree, the HD batteries are fine.

The AGM batteries are just options to consider depending on your needs, but perhaps overkill for your purposes.

For what it is worth, 99.99% of the time I use Harley stuff. Now I do not have any concern of 2nd thoughts.

I once needed a battery and a guy I respected just go to the local auto supply and get a battery for a bike.

It was 100 bucks. I did. I installed it and it worked perfectly.

I saved quite a bit of money I think on the battery alone let alone the labor.

So that would be my $.02.
